The Ateneu Barcelon\u00e8s<\/a> organized the round table \u201cOne Language, the Same Cause\u201d on Thursday, October 24, to address the critical situation of Catalan across Catalan-speaking territories from diverse and cross-sectional perspectives<\/strong>. Senator of the European University (eUniv), Maria Cucurull<\/strong>, participated on behalf of Andorra and Cultura Activa, alongside Xavier Antich<\/strong>, president of \u00d2mnium Cultural<\/a>; Anna Oliver<\/strong>, from Acci\u00f3 Cultural del Pa\u00eds Valenci\u00e0<\/a>; Antoni Llabr\u00e9s<\/strong>, president of Obra Cultural Balear<\/a>; and Guillem Dalmau<\/strong>, president of \u00d2mnium Cultural Catalunya Nord<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the session, moderated by Llu\u00efsa Jord\u00e0<\/strong>, vice-president of Ateneu Barcelon\u00e8s, it was shown that, while there are particularities in the situation of Catalan in each territory, certain underlying currents are shared<\/strong>. Cucurull highlighted the importance of an educational model that supports knowledge and use of Catalan, as well as the need for public institutions to allocate resources to promote the language. In this regard, the new law on Catalan as an official and native language was noted as a tool to reverse the situation of Catalan in Andorra<\/strong>, while it was emphasized that without resources to ensure its implementation<\/strong>, the law will not have the desired effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion emphasized that<\/strong> there are \u201creasons for hope\u201d in each Catalan-speaking territory<\/strong>. These include a powerful critical mass of Catalan speakers willing to promote and use Catalan, a recent ecosystem of Catalan influencers on social media who can serve as role models for young people, and initiatives like Escoltes del Pa\u00eds Valenci\u00e0, which promote the use of Catalan in recreational spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event concluded with a musical performance by Borja Penalba, who performed musical adaptations of several poems by Catalan-speaking authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
