On 22 August, the Societat Andorrana de Ci\u00e8ncies held its traditional specialised Andorran conference, an event that has taken place since 1988. As part of the Universitat Catalana d\u2019Estiu, the 39th edition of the Andorran Conference was held to discuss Andorran neutrality, featuring a total of twenty-one in-person presentations and eight remote presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The history of Andorra and the Andorran people has always been, and continues to be, closely linked to the condition of neutrality and the concept of being neutral. Neutral in relation to the two large states between which Andorra is situated, whose interests have very often been opposed or conflicting, in order to preserve its distinctiveness and, consequently, its independence, belonging to neither one nor the other. Neutral in relation to the two Lords or Co-Princes, who are closely linked to the two neighbouring states. Neutral because of its economic dependence on the outside world due to its size, addressed through cooperation and complementarity with its neighbours. Neutral in order to achieve the balance that enables it to be and remain sustainable. Neutral in order to adapt to the new system governing an increasingly open world\u2014to globalisation\u2014which requires commitment and responsibility, with a position that is impartial, yet also fair and aligned with human rights and humanism, going beyond the traditional approach of simple non-involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And it is necessary to adapt to the new parameters and nuances encompassed by the concept of neutrality today in order to remain afloat in the current fluid world, bringing stability to uncertainties and making actions towards the surrounding environment more supportive than ever, thereby justifying independence and what it represents: continuing to enjoy the status of free people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
