eUniv Takes Part in Granada Presentation of a Work on Dominican Missions in China
Granada, October 29, 2026. Yesterday, an academic event was held at the Santa Cruz la Real College Hall in Granada to present the work Dominican Missions in China, a historical study that recovers the legacy of the Dominican presence in the Asian country. The event brought together representatives of the European-IMF University of Andorra and the University of Granada.
The publication, written by Dr Josep Serrano Daura, professor at the European-IMF University of Andorra and Director of the Fiter Rossell Chair, focuses on the life of Fray Pere Màrtir Sans i Jordà, a Dominican friar from Ascó (Ribera d’Ebre, Catalonia), who became Bishop of the Chinese Diocese of Mauricastro and died there in 1747 as a victim of the religious persecution against Catholics.

Professor Serrano’s work is the result of two decades of continuous research, including visits to the locations where the historical events took place, and has been published in three volumes by the Ascó Town Council. The life of Fray Pere Màrtir Sans i Jordà, Dominican friar and bishop, provides valuable testimony to the missionary and cultural activity carried out by the Order of Preachers in China.
The presentation featured speeches by Fr Antonio Larios Ramos, Prior of the Convent of Santa Cruz la Real in Granada; Dr Marc Escolà i Pons, Protonotary of the European-IMF University of Andorra; and Dr Josep Serrano Daura, author of the work.
The event was also attended by an institutional delegation from the University of Andorra (eUniv), composed of its Rector, Dr Antoni Noguero; Chancellor Dr Jesús Maria Prujà; General Manager Mr Antón Miret; and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Dr Eladi Llop. The session was moderated by Dr Antonio Sánchez Aranda, professor at the University of Granada.
This initiative highlights eUniv’s commitment to academic cooperation among higher education institutions and contributes to the dissemination of historical research of particular relevance to the study of cultural relations between Europe and Asia, as well as to a deeper understanding of the role played by the Dominicans in the history of China.
